Jobs for People with Tourette's

Tourette Syndrome, or Tourette’s, is a neurological condition that causes people with the condition to make involuntary movements and sounds, called “tics”. Some people with Tourette’s will have other associated conditions such as ADHD, OCD, depression or anxiety.

It is estimated that over 300,000 people are living with the condition in the U.K.

Is Tourette’s a Disability?

A disability is defined by The Equality Act as “a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.

Tourette Syndrome is classified as a disability in the U.K. This means that if you are diagnosed with Tourette’s in the U.K., you are entitled to certain benefits and allowances. It also means that you are protected from discrimination on the grounds of your disability in relation to The Equality Act 2010.

No decisions can be made about your employment or potential employment on the basis of the fact that you have Tourette’s.

If you think you have been discriminated against because you have Tourette’s, make sure you contact the Equality Advisory Service for advice and support.
