Local Assistance Scheme Officer

Job description

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen in the team that delivers the Local Assistance Scheme. If you are a self-motivated team player with a lot of initiative, and most importantly are keen to help some of the most vulnerable households in the city, then we want to hear from you.

The Local Assistance Scheme (LAS) provides Independence Grants to support independent living in the community and often involves the provision of furniture and/or white goods. The scheme also provides Crisis Grants to help Sheffield residents who don’t have enough money to meet their short-term needs arising from a crisis following an emergency or disaster.

As Local Assistance Scheme Officer, you would mostly process applications for Local Assistance Scheme Independence grants and make decisions on whether the applications have met the criteria for an award, based on policy and guidance.

You must have excellent written, verbal communication and listening skills. A customer focussed approach to your work is essential.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
