Main duties of the job

The Assistant Practitioner role will also require the post holder to:

  • Ensure effective communication with patients, carers, multidisciplinary team and the wider health and social care community.
  • Practice in accordance with Health Board standards
  • and statutory requirements and operate within the boundaries of the role and assessed competencies.

  • Use personal effectiveness and knowledge to contribute to the development and delivery of a quality service.
  • Work proactively as a member of the multi disciplinary and multi professional healthcare team, in support of registered practitioners.
  • Manage a small defined caseload of patients with chronic conditions under the supervision of the case manager/nurse practitioner.
  • Administer within scope of competence prescribed medication/medicinal products where designated according to BCUHB policy. 
  • The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

    Essential criteria

  • Foundation Degree in Healthcare Practice (Levels 4 & 5)
  • Five GCSEs at grades A C or equivalent level of qualification, e.g. NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care related subject
  • Be able to demonstrate literacy and numeracy to key skills Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE grade A – C in English and Maths)
  • Desirable criteria

  • European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent

  • Previous relevant experience in a healthcare environment working in an indirect supervised role
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working at a higher level as a healthcare support worker, preferably in a community setting.
