With the end of 2020 around the corner, Careers with Disabilities are reflecting on our biggest achievements of the year. We are proud to have begun our journey supporting disabled people across the UK and can’t wait to see where 2021 takes us.

Without a doubt, 2020 has been a very difficult year for many. The Covid-19 pandemic has had a dramatic impact on the economy and employment across the UK and of those most affected are disabled people. A higher proportion of disabled people than non-disabled people were worried about the effect of the coronavirus pandemic on their wellbeing, employment, and access to basic necessities.

We hope that we will all see an end to the pandemic in 2021 and see our lives return to normality.

Highlights of 2020

Careers with Disabilities was launched in reaction to the pandemic and Government-enforced lockdowns that followed. Our aim is to support the disabled workforce during this time of uncertainty. One in six disabled people reported that they feared losing their job as a result of the pandemic. Careers with Disabilities is a brand-new and vital resource to support disabled people on all aspects of employment.

  • Creating Our Disability Advice Hub

Created with both disabled people and their employers in mind, our Disability Advice Hub is the go-to resource for disability employment advice. The Disability Advice Hub includes information and advice about specific disabilities, long-term health conditions, and mental health conditions. We currently have advice for over 20 different disabilities and plan to expand further in the first few months of 2021.

  • Launch of the Careers with Disabilities Jobs Board

The Careers with Disabilities jobs board launched on the 21st October 2020. Since launch, we have added over 100 jobs from a range of disability-friendly employers. We are proud to provide our disabled users access to job opportunities at organisations they can be confident will support them in the workplace.

  • Welcoming Key Organisations to Our Network

We were pleased to welcome a number of organisations to our disability-friendly network of employers. Careers with Disabilities are here to support employers that are just beginning their journeys into disability inclusion as well as those who are already leaders in accessibility and inclusivity. Key members of our network include ScotRail, Dstl, Diversity & Ability, and the Financial Conduct Authority. To view all organisations that are part of the Careers with Disabilities employer network, visit our employer directory.

Looking Ahead to 2021

Careers with Disabilities are excited to head into 2021 and continue our mission to support disabled people access meaningful long-term employment. We plan to continue our growth through our existing initiatives and will also begin a number of new projects.

If your organisation is looking for an innovative way to connect with disabled candidates, get in touch with the Careers with Disabilities team. Let’s make 2021 the year where the inclusion of disabled people is a priority in all settings.
