• Take and run disability-awareness training to educate themselves and others on important issues surrounding disability at work.

 

• Learn as much as they can about individual disabilities and peoples’ experiences with them, using resources such as our Disability Advice Hub.

 

• Enrol for the Disability Confident Scheme and advertise their status to the general public.

 

• Tackle their own unconscious bias towards disabled people and work on rooting out bias throughout their own workforce.

 

• Have strong policies around discrimination and protect their disabled employees from all forms of discrimination in the workplace.

For disabled people, finding an employer who meets all of these criteria will result in a much better work experience. Such an experience can allow disabled employees to be happier in their jobs and keep their jobs for much longer, leading to sustainable financial security and general well-being.
