Anxiety Friendly Jobs
Anxiety is a mental health condition that affects a significant number of people in the U.K. every year. Their anxiety may be connected to certain life circumstances, related to another mental health condition, or it may feel entirely random with no root cause.
Dealing with anxiety, particularly severe and long-lasting anxiety, has significant impacts on a person’s life. It causes disruption in many areas. With one particularly impacted area often being that of work and employment. Some people with anxiety find that they are frequently absent from work, behind in their tasks, and even feeling pushed towards leaving employment entirely.
It is important to remember that there are work opportunities that make it much easier to work while dealing with a mental health condition. Finding anxiety friendly jobs makes it much more possible to continue to work and stay financially secure even while dealing with something difficult. On this page, we are going to talk a little more about how to find those jobs.
What Are Anxiety Friendly Jobs?
What job or working environment does or doesn’t make a person feel anxious can be quite subjective. However, there are conditions a job (and employer offering the job) can meet that will ensure someone living with anxiety will feel more comfortable.
Anxiety friendly jobs generally meet the following criteria:
- The employer is inclusive and disability-friendly
- Mental health is talked about openly and without judgement
- There are strong anti-discrimination policies around mental health
- The working environment and culture are disability-friendly
- There are solid support systems within the workplace, including HR, line managers and even mental health specific roles
- Disability-awareness training takes place
- Reasonable adjustments are made for the employees who need them
If a job can meet all (or most) of these criteria, there is a high chance that it will be anxiety friendly. Ultimately, the job will allow someone with anxiety to work on an equal level that their colleagues and they will not be punished or disadvantaged due to their disability.
Let’s guess what your next question will be… Where do I find these jobs?
