    Job overview

    We are looking for an experienced scrub practitioner to join out acute operating theatre team in York hospital.

    A little bit about the role – Our acute operating theatre team covers 365 days of the year 24 hours a day. They are responsible for treating patients with acute and life threatening injuries and illnesses from across our region.

    The surgical specialties covered by the acute team include: Maxillofacial, ENT, Gynaecology, Urology, Vascular, Upper GI, Colorectal, Breast, Plastics and Trauma. To apply you must be an experienced theatre practitioner with scrub experience in some or all of these specialties.

    You will be given a 6 week supernumerary period and will work with our clinical educators to gain experience and training in any specialties you are not familiar with and complete a skills book to demonstrate this.

    Main duties of the job

  • Demonstrate and develop clinical assessment skills and the ability to prioritise the care for patients undergoing a surgical / anaesthetic procedure.
  • Actively supports patients and their families, communicating clinical information using a variety of methods, to ensure effective understanding.
  • Contribute to the continuing development of patient care within the operating theatres, e.g. through sharing knowledge and expertise as required.
  • Prepare and organise clinical area to receive patients for elective, emergency and trauma procedures. To safely identify, prepare, check and assemble equipment required for the relevant operating list.
  • Responsible for adhering to the NMC / ODP professional Code of Conduct.

  • Our shift pattern covers 24hrs. All shifts are 11.5 hours minus breaks, 07.45-20.15 or 20.00-08.00 covering weekends and bank holiday. You must be able to commit to a rotating shift pattern.

    Part time hours are available with the minimum being 23 hrs. (2 shifts per week).

    DBS Checks

    Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment.
