The Role

Do you have a passion for inpatient neurorehabilitation? Would you like to work alongside a highly skilled MDT and be supported by clinical specialists in neurorehabilitation? We are recruiting a 12 month fixed term contract for our Band 6 Occupational Therapy post on the Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit.

The post holder will have a strong drive for working collaboratively as part of an excellent team, and deliver high quality clinical interventions to adults with acquired brain injury. As a band 6 on the team, you will actively contribute to patient care, provide specialist rehabilitation and use your OT skills to support the discharge process. Alongside this, you will contribute to profession specific and multidisciplinary service improvement initiatives and will supervise, support and develop junior staff. We will work alongside you to support your clinical and professional development needs.

Clinical skills are translated to capacity assessments and risk management for supporting discharge for this complex client group. The RNRU OT team includes two band 7’s, 3 band 6’s and a band 5 which offers peer support. Team leadership is offered by the B8a clinical specialist OT, who offers joint sessions, training and opportunities for collaborative learning.

About the Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (RNRU)

The RNRU is a Level 1b unit in London supporting patients with complex cognitive and/or complex physical disability. Our specialist multi-disciplinary team consists of neuro specialist nurses, Neuro Rehabilitation Consultants; and a Neuro AHP Consultant leads our therapy team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians and Rehabilitation Assistants. Colleagues from Social Work, Clinical Neuropsychologists, Psychotherapy and Leisure Coordinator make up our team. We work closely together to provide a high quality, client-centred, goal focused, efficient, responsive and intensive service for our service users & families.

We are particularly proud of our Headway Accreditation, which we have achieved for the last 7 years. This post will support you to develop advanced assessment and intervention skills in arousal levels, complex cognition and behavioural management alongside complex physical management.

Adult Therapy Services at Homerton University Hospital

Homerton is a centre of excellence for neurological rehabilitation and we actively engage with quality improvement and research within all teams. All neurological therapies at the Homerton are supported by an AHP Consultant in Neurological Rehabilitation. You will be joining a wider neurological service that includes the Homerton Neurological Transitional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit, Early Supported Discharge (ESD) for stroke and neurology within the Integrated Independence Team the Adult Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team, Hackney Neuro navigator role, The City and Hackney Wheelchair Service and specialist AHP lead spasticity and neuro orthotic clinics.

This post is offered as a full time position 37.5 hours per week.
