Overview

Currie & Brown is currently looking for a site-wide fire safety advisor for our Weybridge site. The successful candidate will act as the lead competent person in relation to fire safety matters on site with specific reference to the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The applicant will be responsible for driving the continual improvement of the site’s operational fire safety duties and implementation of strategic fire safety objectives. The post holder will have responsibility for advising and supporting staff, managers and contractors as required to ensure a co-ordinated and proactive approach to the management of fire safety risk and the achievement of a positive fire safety culture.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for the successful candidate will include:

  • Providing leadership and expert technical advice to manage compliance of all aspects of fire safety across all assets, ensuring the services are maintained and improved
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring fire safety policies, strategies and annual fire management plans across the Weybridge site
  • Providing fire safety advice and assistance to all employees, design teams and contractors on site
  • Advising and assisting staff with the implementation of operational fire safety responsibilities
  • Advising on fire safety requirements for new builds and material alterations, when requested
  • Ensuring that all fire risk assessments are completed to a high level of satisfaction and to a standard of legal compliance
  • Assisting with the implementation of fire risk assessment action plans and internal reviews
  • Assisting with the preparation of personal emergency evacuation plans (PEEPs) for all those requiring assistance
  • Evaluating fire safety performance at operational level and document reports on performance, including an action plan for continual improvement
  • Preparing fire safety reports for management or board committees and undertaking fire safety audits and inspections in accordance with agreed schedules
  • Delivering fire safety training as and when necessary
  • Investigating fire-related incidents and accidents on site and preparing reports and recommendations to eliminate/minimise the risk of personal injury, fire and damage to property
  • Liaising with third-party organisations, including enforcement agencies, as required
  • Preparing and delivering training programmes
  • Maintaining and developing specialist knowledge on current trends and keeping abreast of relevant legislation
  • Qualifications

    Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification relating to fire safety preferably to a master’s level
  • Independent fire safety accreditation to member grade, eg MIFireE or similar
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fire safety-related legislation and approved guidance
  • Extensive experience in a fire safety management role in a large/complex/high-value/high-risk site, eg COMAH or similar for example high containment, nuclear, hospital, university science/medical, pharma
  • Extensive experience of conducting fire risk assessments, audits and incident investigations in a high-risk site
  • Experience of producing detailed and structured technical reports relating to fire safety
  • A demonstrable track record of delivering measurable improvements in fire safety
  • Experience of working in close liaison with regulatory bodies
  • Excellent communications skills with experience of influencing and engaging effectively across a wide range of stakeholders
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proactive, affable, amicable, firm
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to work without supervision.
  • The successful candidate will have to go through the CTC security clearance.
