Technology Services provide the foundations upon which digital services for DWP are developed and operate. Our purpose is to deliver secure, effective and cost-efficient digital infrastructure services and to run live IT operations that support DWP business objectives. We do this by putting users and quality of service at the heart of what we do.
Our team is made up of 1,500 colleagues working collaboratively across 10 portfolio-led teams in a fast-moving environment. Our teams deliver an end-to-end suite of digital products and services that support DWP colleagues and citizens in an ever-evolving technology landscape. Our work is focused around the following 6 themes:

We provide the products and services to make our users’ jobs easier, encourage greater collaboration and support flexibility in working patterns, locations and on devices of their choice – helping to drive forward DWP’s digital transformation.

As we continue our journey to service excellence we have identified a number of opportunities to join our Technology Services team.
We are looking for a Senior Technical Delivery Manager, with experience of Infrastructure and Application monitoring delivery to work with us on a once-in-a-generation digital transformation.
You will join the DWP Enterprise Tooling Team which are responsible for developing, enhancing and maintaining a range of enterprise strength toolsets that manage the Departments IT Systems Management capabilities.
You will contribute to the overall Delivery/Implementation Process, working with the relevant product owners, for an assigned range of products which may include:
•Application Performance Management.
•Data Analytics Tooling.
•Systems Management Tooling.
•Event Monitoring Tooling.
•Software Asset Management Tooling.
•Data Centre Infrastructure Management Tooling.
Successful applicants will be an intrinsic part of the team working closely with Tooling Engineering/Operations teams and application owners to ensure the successful delivery of projects, changes and upgrades to the Tooling products.
As a Senior Technical Delivery Manager you will be joining a team committed to designing, developing, deploying and supporting core IT services that underpin the DWP’s citizen facing systems. These services provide the monitoring necessary to know how healthy the network, server or application is, how the datacentres are laid out, what power they are consuming whilst also ensuring that DWP are accurately capturing Software Asset information to allow the central Asset team to ensure we are correctly and efficiently licensed. In addition, as a Senior Engineer within the team you will be an escalation point for major incidents within the production environment.
The DWP use a wide variety of best of breed software to support the provision of core services. It is not expected that you will be conversant in all of the products used but we do expect a level of understanding of the concepts behind the products and why we need them. This would include the need, for example, to monitor alerts and application performance. Keeping these underlying monitoring systems online is key to keeping the DWP citizen facing systems operational.
Your role would include taking a project through the delivery lifecycle, from initial product assessment through to a successful delivery and transition into live service. Alongside initial delivery the role will also entail assisting the Product Owners in running the ongoing live service. This will require you to engage and coordinate with other dependent delivery teams, key stakeholders and Change Management.
You would be expected to have a technical awareness of IT infrastructure, as this role is around co-ordination and management of the technical delivery of tooling solutions.
The role is very varied with no two days generally being the same. This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of the team that is ensuring that our citizen facing systems are as accessible as possible to those needing them, whilst developing and honing your skills. We are looking for someone with the aptitude to be able to learn and expand their skills into new areas through on the job and more formal training, both of which are available.
You will be primarily based at one of our three Digital hub locations but will be expected to occasionally travel to other locations, including some overnight stays. Travel will be discussed with you in advance and your personal circumstances considered insofar as is practical whilst achieving the DWP Digital requirements.
Your responsibilities will include but are not restricted to, the following:
•Responsible for delivery management of services/solutions, ensuring performance and delivery to stakeholders.
•Operational management and monitoring of supplier’s performance and escalation as required.
•Development and implementation of service improvement plans to address identified issues.
•Responsible for the provision of Management information reporting and escalation to senior stakeholders, ensuring alignment to best practice.
•Responsible for ensuing all infrastructure management processes and services are documented and stored centrally.
•Has an appreciation of information security, designing solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as core part of the solutions and services.
The ideal candidate for this role will be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria:
•Demonstrate Significant Experience of delivering solutions within an agile framework.
•Demonstrate Significant Experience of co-ordinating the troubleshooting and resolution of complex issues across multiple enterprise tooling domains.
•Demonstrate Significant Experience of effectively communicating at different levels, across support and engineering, business users, architecture and suppliers.
•Demonstrate Significant Experience of delivering solutions to large scale enterprise environments for the following applications; asset discovery, enterprise monitoring, network and system configuration management, datacentre management.
•Project Management qualifications or equivalent experience / skills.

Salary for this role is from £49,171 (Band min) to £59,589 (Band max).
Where the maximum salary is offered, a Digital Allowance of up to £2,549 per annum is available for exceptional candidates, based on our assessment of your skills and experience.
Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.
Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.
Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.
This role can be based out of either (Blackpool, Newcastle or Manchester) corporate hub locations.
The Department is committed to promoting flexible ways of working, whilst enabling the business to operate at maximum efficiency and will expect colleagues to work from a blend of locations, including some time working at home, as required. The corporate hub location will be the designated place of work and any remote or home working arrangement does not constitute a change to your designated place of work or contractual Terms and Conditions.
