Our Technical Services team provides professional engineering services to clients across a range of sectors. These include the mining and quarrying, mineral and metals processing, materials handling, general industrial and renewables industries. Typical services offered include design from pre-feasibility through to detailed design for construction, project management and construction management. Many of our clients are international, and we have experience in delivering professional services remotely on projects in India, USA, Thailand, Sumatra, France, Sweden, Belgium, Brasil, South Korea, Portugal, Spain and many other countries.

Due to growth, an opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Technical Services team. Our Technical Service hub is based in St Austell, Cornwall. However, nmcn operate a flexible working policy and successful candidates can therefore be based anywhere in the United Kingdom providing they have the ability to split their time between working remotely and at one of our regional offices.

You will be responsible for leading mechanical engineering design on multi-disciplinary projects. You will have the support and encouragement to grow our mechanical team and to enhance our capabilities to suit future market needs. We’re seeking someone to take ownership and grow our technical capabilities to their full potential.

What you’ll be doing day to day

  • Assessment of technical information and development of solutions, through the preparation of engineering deliverables such as reports, drawings, specifications and data sheets
  • Develop designs that are safe to build, commission, operate, maintain and de-commission
  • Directing our CAD and engineering resource to undertake tasks where appropriate
  • Applying technical assurance and ensuring compliance with governance process(es)
  • Share knowledge and experience within projects teams and developing colleagues to increase their technical competence and improve delivery efficiencies
  • Attend internal and external design reviews (e.g. HAZOP and ALM reviews) and where applicable progress meetings
  • Engagement of various stakeholders to understand current performance and future client requirements to be incorporated into the solution
  • Communication of progress and additional resource requirements to the relevant manager
  • Work alongside Project / Design Manager(s) to support the planning and delivery of projects including estimating and monitoring resource input, cost and time requirements
  • Working with Senior Management to develop our capabilities and shaping the future of Technical Services
  • What we’re looking for in a candidate

  • An industry applicable BEng, MEng or equivalent in a mechanical discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (or ready and able to progress to Chartered)
  • Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of project engineering design and delivery
  • Awareness of industrial material handling, treatment processes and the equipment / systems within them
  • Finite Element Analysis experience desirable as is Computational Fluid Dynamics, but not essential
  • Awareness of HazOp, FMEA processes and experience of CDM regulations
  • Hydraulic analysis and calculations including but not limited to pipelines, pump and blower duties
  • Equipment selection and specification including but not limited to pumps, agitators, conveyors, filters, valves, chemical storage and dosing
  • Commercial and contractual awareness
  • Excellent IT literacy with experience of Microsoft and Google packages. Able to produce high quality reports and expert Excel user
