Senior Lecturer Aviation Management

Salary: £39,152 – £49,553 per annum based on qualifications and experience

Buckinghamshire New University is one of the UK’s leading providers of aviation degree programmes. This role is for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer and Course Leader with a strong aviation background to lead and manage the University’s aviation degree programmes and related activities; and to manage course delivery with sector partners. This is a high profile and responsible role in one of our flagship areas. Reporting directly to the Head of School, the role will require successful applicants to teach, manage and support students who are based both in the UK and internationally as they seek to achieve both academically and professionally in this exciting and demanding sector.

The post holder is required to be a credible and influential aviation specialist, who is able to engage with large numbers of aviation students and with stakeholders such as partner Aviation Training Organisations (ATOs), airlines and businesses, and employers. You will need strong and demonstrable teaching and management skills as well as detailed, current knowledge of the Aviation sector.

Job Purpose:

The design and delivery of aviation and pilot specific programmes and courses. To teach on modules and programmes related to these specific areas. To manage and support students throughout their degree programme and to carry out research and other scholarly activities. To manage our delivery of courses at partner ATOs.

  Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

To be responsible for the School of Aviation and Security undergraduate pilot degrees, their continued excellence and further development including:

  • Responsibility for the day-to-day running of modules
  • Liaising with academic and administrative staff
  • Planning workshops/teaching
  • Ensuring the timely availability of study material for students
  • Dealing with general academic queries
  • Updating of course material in liaison with other academic staff
  • Responsible for student support
  • Marketing of the course
  • Quality assurance, including marking, moderation and liaising with External Examiner
  • Programme Leader
  • To develop and deliver wider programmes at all levels in response to market demand in the UK and overseas.

    Identifying business partners to support the curriculum, maintaining currency for the students and promoting and developing employability routes.

    To undertake research or scholarly activity to support personal development and maintain currency in the subject and identify funding streams to increase department income.

    To represent these programmes at meetings and conferences as required.

    To undertake other duties as they arise which are commensurate with the role and as agreed with the Head of School.

    To develop and demonstrate commitment to the University’s Strategy, policies and procedures.

    To work effectively with others and contribute to the achievement of team objectives.

    Engage with business and professional networks to promote teaching and learning and research in a professional context

    Contribute to open days, school and college links and promotional work of the School in the UK and overseas.
