The Purpose of the Role

This role forms a core part of the CIO finance team, focusing on accounting and analysis to support the business in key decision making relating to the CIO’s change project portfolio, as well as supporting financial analysis of ongoing IT spend activities.

The role will report to the Head of Finance for CIO Transformation and will work alongside other senior finance analysts and senior business stakeholders. 

Principal Accountabilities

​​​​​​​Senior manager role, with full ownership and accountability of product reporting, budgeting, forecasting and decision making:

  • Manage the monthly review and challenge process for the CIO change portfolio, providing appropriate high-level analysis of performance, and identifying risks & opportunities
  • Ensure full transparency, understanding and interpretation of IT change portfolio financial performance, clearly articulating drivers of cost
  • Provide financial insight, analysis and reporting on performance versus budget and forecast, ensuring implications for outlook are articulated and acted upon
  • Maintain a register of cost Risks & Opportunities, highlight through the appropriate channels and ensure alignment in quarterly forecasts
  • Manage budgeting and forecasting process, challenging Project Managers to deliver a robust plan within the guidelines and timetable established by the Financial Control team. Co-ordinate and lead teams across the change portfolio to generate high quality budget build and resulting action plans
  • Evaluate business cases for investment decisions, challenging assumptions and ensure compliance with governance, making recommendations to improve return on investment
  • Prioritise project issues for review with CIO Change portfolio lead, sponsors and SteerCo
  • Support the Head of Finance for CIO business as usual activities in understanding the drivers of ongoing IT financial performance, and in identifying and driving cost efficiency initiatives 
  • Provide expert advice and an independent view to the Finance Leadership Team, CFO and functional lead team
  • Participate in cross Finance initiatives and work streams to include support for any audit work carried out
  • Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • Broad range of accountancy skills – fully qualified accountant with CCAB recognised qualification (e.g. ACA, CIMA, ACCA)
  • Experience in a project finance environment operating at a senior level across multiple projects at different stages of their lifecycle, and varying
  • Good understanding of finance systems (particularly SAP, BI, Anaplan)
  • Computer literacy/numeracy with strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
  • Knowledge of business case and investment appraisals
