What you will be doing

As the Project Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for the planning and scheduling of projects in Primavera P6, analysing performance and making recommendations to improve progress. In this role you will work autonomously, ensuring that the business is fully up to date on progress across a portfolio of medium to large scale projects within our Developer Services Major Projects area.

Key areas of accountability will include:

  • Working with Project Managers, Commercial, Design and Delivery partners in schedule development and milestone definition, managing the alignment of scope, time and cost, coding and applying logic
  • Maintaining performance and contractual baselines, producing critical path analysis on fully resourced and cost loaded project plans
  • Tailoring templates using Primavera P6 in scheduling, monitoring, and controlling labour and material resources
  • Having an oversight and facilitating in supplier performance measurement
  • Providing effective risk management services and facilitating interventions as appropriate
  • Working closely with the commercial team to prepare and evaluate contract and commercial impacts to Thames Water activities within the overall programme
  • Ensuring all H&S documentation and permits are approved/in place before commencing construction
  • Providing assurance for both project control data integrity and in evaluations of progress against time, cost, quality, and compliance
  • Facilitating with scope management and mapping, tracking and assurance of reportable benefits and outputs
  • Collating data from multi-disciplined teams and liaising closely with the supply chain to receive and verify programme information
  • Ensuring that the month-end reporting process is supported and achieved including maintaining integration and driving project team members
  • We’re looking for you to:

  • Ensure your own continuous professional development by participating in external networking/conferences/associations/groups, to stay current on industry changes and innovations
  • Have experience using Primavera P6, Power BI and related software with the ability to pick up new systems quickly
  • Have exceptional analytical and numerical skills, with a good understanding of schedule interfaces
  • Have an awareness of business procedures and processes with ability to liaise at all levels and influence
  • Have experience in the water or utilities industry and an understanding of contract models such as NEC (Clauses 31/32)
  • Be an effective communicator with a proactive approach and a strong track record of controlling medium to large scale projects
  • Be educated to degree level or equivalent experience in engineering, construction and/or project management
  • Be a member of a professional body such as CMI, APM/PMI or ACostE

You will be engaged on the full project life cycle from initial budget estimates through to close out reflecting the Contract, Design and Delivery Team requirements.
