About the role:

Joining our friendly and supportive Lexcel accredited in-house legal team, you will support the Planning & Environment Team within the Corporate Services Department, the work in our team being predominantly undertaken for colleagues in the Department of Economy, Transport and Environment (ETE) and Culture, Communities and Business Services Department (CCBS).

We are looking for a qualified solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive with a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience with a current practising certificate for England & Wales. About you

You will have relevant experience of working on your own initiative but within a team environment. You must also have the ability to work under pressure, to work to strict time limits and to prioritise your workload. Above all, you will carry out duties in a professional and accurate manner with a client focused approach. This role will include the provision of legal advice, advocacy and representation to the County Council’s departments, committees, members and other external partners and client bodies, that will not only increase the efficiency of the team, but also that of the County Council as a whole and offers the unique level of support that comes with working within our well-respected team and Hampshire County Council generally. 

You will mainly be responsible for supporting with complex planning work such as development consent orders (DCO’s) for nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIP’s) and major s.106 agreements, as well as dealing with public inquiries (both planning and countryside related) and offering more senior support on strategic planning matters. To take responsibility for multiple complex cases and projects of major corporate significance within the area of service provided by the Planning and Environment Team within Hampshire Legal Services, in addition to such other work that might be allocated to the post holder from time to time. 

You will need to be able to apply the law and undertake appropriate conversations with your colleagues both internally and with other public bodies as well as with members of the public.
