About the team
This role will be based at our Rail Innovation Centre, Long Marston. The team you will be joining bring with them over 43 years experience, at Long Marston.
Responsibilities Develop, Manage and Maintain Procurement categories strategies for the LongMarston site Develop appropriate category strategies for theprocurement of key items required for the safe and effective running of theLong Marston site. These must be in line with the overall procurement strategyand will be delivered to provide the best value and quality for the business Ensure that the category strategies consider therequirements of all key stakeholders Be seen as the procurement subject matter experton all the procurement activities for the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre To source and manage large scale procurement activitiesin conjunction with the project manager and site personnel as required,ensuring that the best supplier, in terms of quality, cost and delivery isselected in line with the procurement process To procure goods and services from suppliers forthe site, ensuring that best value is obtained for Porterbrook To conduct supplier due diligence as required To manage the supplier on-boarding process inline with the laid down procedures ensuring that all the relevant documentationis submitted in a timely manner Manage the supplier performance against thecontractual service level agreements, ensuring feedback from other functions isreceived and acted upon. Escalate any issues in a timely manner, bothexternally to the supplier and internally within the procurement function To conduct an annual review of key suppliersensuring that best value is still being obtained To review all contracts and proposals providedby potential suppliers, ensuring that these meet the requirements of what isneeded by the business and does not expose the business to any risk To seek local and small to medium enterprises toform part of the supply chain wherever possible To look into sustainable options when conductingprocurement exercises
Other Duties Work effectively with other functions/departments. Operate in line with the organisation’s values and behaviours Ensure that all products procured comply withall environmental, ethical and health and safety legislation Support the business in the drive for continuousimprovement
Skills and Experience
General Requirements Ideally a procurement professional or buyer with around 5 years’ experience An individual who is a self-starter and is effectiveworking either alone or as part of a team to complete the job to the highestlevel. Excellent technical knowledge/awareness of key railway sub-systems andthe future opportunities offered in these areas for rail is desirable Able to take a pragmatic approach tochallenges and actively solve problems before they become issues. Experience oftaking full accountability for the end to end procurement process, with a trackrecord in achieving quality results An ambitious and driven individual, with atrack record in procurement Experience of Oracle systems would bedesirable
Qualifications Educated to degree or further education standard, preferably in either Engineering, Law, or Business Management An MCIPS or better qualification from the Chartered Institute of Procurement would be preferred (or working towards this)
Knowledge Knowledge of railway industry rolling stock,depot operations and components is desirable Legal or commercial experience would beadvantageous Track record of working to and exceeding KPIs
Key Skills Commercially astute with excellent understandingof contracting Well organised and experienced in working underpressure Experience of e-procurement systems (desirable) Numerate with strong analytical skills Microsoft Excel skills at intermediate level Excellent oral and written communication skills
