The Principal Social Worker is a statutory role set out in the Care Act focused on improving social work practice in adult social care. In Croydon we recognise how important the role is and have developed this post to focus on the core duties of the Principal Social Worker. We are looking for someone who will:

  • Lead, develop and oversee excellent social work practice across Adult Social Care
  • support effective social work supervision and decision making
  • oversee quality assurance and improvement of social work practice
  • advise the Director of Adult Social Services (DASS) / Senior Management Team on complex high profile cases and on developing case or other law relating to social work practice
  •  Ensure that there are strong links with Children Social Care practice
  • The person who is appointed will need to be passionate about social work. They will be expected to have:

  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and experience of applying it in complex settings
  • Experience as Practice Educator/supervisor
  • Deliver an ASYE programme to newly qualified social workers
  • Experience of embracing innovation in social work practice and implementing learning from research
  • The Ability to challenge and influence at all levels
