About the opportunity:

We currently have an opportunity for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our Reading Winnersh Ground Engineering team. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate your sound technical skills whilst working in an engaging and collaborative team. You will provide technical leadership, mentoring and advice for the Ground Engineering team while delivering solutions for a range of public and private sector clients. As a result, we are looking for people who have the passion and drive to be involved with major geotechnical projects across sectors including transport infrastructure, buildings, drainage, nuclear and utilities. You will be expected to keep developing your skills and explore all that you can across our global company, with opportunities to share your knowledge along the way.

As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, you will work as part of an established team providing specialised technical support and advice on ground risk management to the wider Jacobs business and clients. You will lead or assist in the delivery of ground engineering input to projects and will also be required to provide technical guidance and support to less experienced junior engineers and technicians.

There will be opportunities for a wider degree of responsibility and roles within our Ground Engineering team aimed at developing your career as a ground engineering specialist.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • MEng degree in Civil Engineering, or a
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or other related geoscience subject, with an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Chartered with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or similar
  • Experience of slope stability assessment, earthworks, foundation and retaining wall design to current European standards
  • The successful applicant must have strong technical design skills with a robust working knowledge of geotechnical software including SlopeW, Settle3D, OpenGround and pile design packages
  • Strong technical leadership and project delivery in a consulting environment
  • Ability to progress schemes from inception to design completion with support from others
  • Ability to lead and complete packages of work to agreed budgets and programmes
  • Can effectively communicate with clients, colleagues at a range of levels and with outside agencies, and can build effective working relationships which always aim to exceed internal and external client expectations
  • Experienced and confident with report writing and presentation skills
  • Flexibility to travel for work.
