This full time post is available from 1 May 2021 on a fixed term basis until 28 February 2026.

Summary of the role

The University of Exeter Business School wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Digital Transformation (DT). Our interests are in how digital technologies can transform the business models of Large Established Organizations (LEOs) and how this impacts all aspects of organisational leadership and management including for example: organisational structures: performance measures: job design: business processes and organisational strategy.

This is a full-time, five-year appointment working as part of an EPSRC Next Stage Digital Economy Research Centre called DIGIT Lab, with the aim to understand how digital transformation can be used to deliver responsible and sustainable approaches to innovation. The post will be London based and at full complement we will have six post-doctoral researchers and seventeen academic staff on the project.

The applicant for this post should expect to show how they contribute to these areas:

  • Be able to engage with LEOs to understand their DT processes.
  • Understand the current state of the knowledge on DT and to devise research questions that will drive the research.
  • Be able to lead the research design that will address the research questions.
  • Engage with industry leaders to impact their DT change programmes.
  • Have a broad understanding of the emerging eco-system and address questions such as ‘who does what and who gets what’.
  • Maintain awareness of digital trends and industry dynamics, take initiative, and conduct exploratory and experimental designs.
  • About you

    Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. They should also have experience of the application of digital technologies which goes beyond description to an understanding of the impact of the technology. Applicants will be able to offer the following experience:

  • A strong academic foundation in DT and its impact in business, ideally to post-graduate level or equivalent experience.
  • Broad and deep understanding of the use of digital technology in DT and innovation.
  • Experience in working within research teams, R&D and IT organizations to be able to relate technology-driven innovation opportunities to business imperatives.
