    Introduction to the role:

    The role holder may assist with expert instruction claims and will also assist other fee earners within the team with their caseloads, with a view to potentially take on their own litigated claims once familiar with the client’s requirements.

    The role will involve a long term secondment to a client NHS Trust in the Manchester area. This will involve acting as the Trust’s claims assistant, reporting and considering claims received and dealing generally with the Trust’s clinical negligence and EL/PL claims in conjunction with NHS Resolution and Hill Dickinson.

    The secondee will receive monthly visits from a member of the HD team for supervision and will attend Manchester HD office on a regular basis for training and supervision. The HD team will also support the secondee in answering queries and identifying if formal legal advice/support is required.

    Introduction to the team:

    This role provides the opportunity to join one of the fastest growing teams in Hill Dickinson. The Health Litigation team have been growing year-on-year with a team of over 100 lawyers and national coverage, we are one of the leading firms providing legal advice and support to the NHS and independent healthcare organisations.

    Our Health team can genuinely say it is award winning, we have previously been named as Legal Services Provider of the Year by the Health Service Journal. We were also shortlisted in the HealthInvestor Awards 2020.

    This is an exciting time to join the Manchester Health Litigation team and work on Secondments with NHSR clients in the Manchester area.

    Key responsibilities:

  • A long term secondment as described above
  • Considering liability and quantum issues
  • Drafting witness statement
  • Drafting internal reports
  • Considering pleadings including Defences and Counter Schedules, arranging signature
  • Assessing quantum
  • Considering whether to settle claims in conjunction with the advice of ourselves/ the NHSLA / reporting to the Trust’s legal services manager on these points
  • What we are looking for

    Essential:

  • Prior experience in clinical negligence and EL PL claims
  • The ability to work independently in addition to as part of a team
  • Undertake client secondments in the greater Manchester area
  • Ability to deliver technically accurate and appropriate advice to clients
  • Ability to work to deadlines, meet financial targets and run an effective diary system
  • Adheres to guidelines and procedures
  • Demonstrates understanding of client needs/expectations
  • Ability to interact and communicate with client and keep them up-to-date
  • Excellent communication skills
