    We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team as a Maternity Matron. Driven, experienced and highly motivated, the successful applicant will be a champion and leader of high professional standards and excellence within maternity services.

    You will support the Senior Midwifery Team in strategies for workforce planning and delivering a safe, high quality service. With an excellent understanding of maternity transformation plans, you will play a key role in the implementation of the Better Births agenda, actions from the Ockenden report and the Long Term Plan You will provide professional leadership, advice and support to Midwives, Nurses and medical staff and will maintain a highly visible profile and presence.

    The successful candidate will be responsible initially for community services and support the continual development and evolvement of our continuity teams. You will work closely with key stakeholders, including service users, and be involved in the planning of equitable services across the LMNS. York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has already implemented teams of continuity midwives and together, we will progress this work in line with national targets.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will have overall responsibility for the management of midwifery and nursing staff and management of resources within the directorate or a part of it. The post holder will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is provided within Maternity services and Gynaecology and ensure the principles of clinical governance are implemented at a local level. They will provide professional leadership, advice and support to midwives, nurses and medical staff and will maintain a high visible profile and presence and be easily identifiable and accessible to women, patients, their families and carers. The post holder will also support the Patient Experience Team and Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), being a focal point for advice to patients and carers and local resolution of complaints.

    There may be a requirement for on-call in the role.

    The post holder will support the Head of Midwifery, Clinical Director and Care Group Manager in quality improvement initiatives and implementation of national recommendations. The post holder will co-ordinate internal and external reporting requirements pertaining to their area.

  • Registered Midwife with current NMC registration.
  • Masters level qualification in relevant speciality or equivalent qualifications or knowledge and experience

    DBS Checks

    Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. The charges are currently £27.68 for a standard check and £44.68 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for.
