Job description

This is an F scale role in the Application and Device Infrastructure team within the Bank of England’s Digital Workplace Domain. A&DI are a senior third-line technology team that provide core end-user platforms to our colleagues including Citrix XenApp, MECM (formally SCCM), our mobile service and application packaging.

We are offering a senior, technical position for an experienced MECM engineering specialist. The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Ensuring that the infrastructure underpinning the Bank’s MECM services is healthy and secure
  • Maintaining skills and knowledge of technical advances in IT, particularly within MECM and related products, to ensure services evolve to support new ways of working
  • Using knowledge of new technologies to build comprehensive roadmaps covering our aims in MECM and related products over the next few years
  • Providing technical expertise and experience in Endpoint Configuration Manager and supporting infrastructure
  • Overseeing quality control of Windows feature releases and patch management
  • Using MECM to carry out monitoring, comparisons, reporting, querying, compliance baselines etc.
  • Planning, testing & implementing changes (e.g. maintenance and upgrades) to supporting infrastructure and services
  • Sharing knowledge with colleagues, including technical mentoring of more junior staff
  • Detailing and recording procedures, configurations and training
  • By the nature of the technical work undertaken, the role will sometimes require working outside of normal business hours (evenings and weekends).

  • Essential Skills and Experience

    The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate and evidence skills or experience in most of the following:

  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Operating systems and MECM technologies
  • Using MECM for Windows 10 OS upgrades
  • Upgrading, configuring and administrating MECM
  • WSUS installation and maintenance
  • Patch management, including improving compliance across a large estate of end-user devices
  • Client baseline configuration, deployment and reporting
  • Desirable Criteria

    Skills or experience in the following are not crucial, but will help candidates stand out:

  • Cloud Management Gateways
  • Improving patching compliance via automated patching tools, e.g. Manage Engine
  • Application package creation and deployment
  • Microsoft MECM/SCCM Certification
  • MECM datacentre migration
  • Microsoft Intune, including mobile devices
  • M365 Management
  • Windows server OS platforms from 2012 onwards
  • VMware Horizon
  • MBAM
  • Designing, planning and delivering new SCCM infrastructure
  • Designing MECM to manage devices across multiple segregated networks
  • Optimising software deployment
  • Creation and maintenance of builds
  • SQL Server including creation of custom reports using SSRS and availability groups
  • Azure Cloud Infrastructure
  • Group Policy Management / AGPM including OU Design, Group Policy Preferences and Group Policy Objects
  • Creation of scripts in various languages including PowerShell
