The School of Humanities is seeking to appoint a permanent, full time Lecturer in English Language/Linguistics from 1 August 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The post will require the appointee to deliver excellence in teaching across the existing suite of modules in the subject area, and to aid in providing high levels of student achievement and satisfaction. Applications will be welcome from those with expertise in all fields of English Language/Linguistics, but a demonstrable ability to teach in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage: theoretical frameworks for the study of English in a socio-historical context; stylistics, discourse analysis, pragmatics; semantics; psycholinguistics. Some experience with corpus linguistics could also assist your application.

You should hold a PhD in English Language or Linguistics, or equivalent and be able to demonstrate excellent pedagogic skills at HE level and the ability to teach widely within the English Language/Linguistics programme. You will be ready to play an active role in the ongoing development of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including PhD supervision, and to participate innovatively in curriculum design. The role will also involve substantial engagement in the School’s recruitment and outreach activities.
