Your Impact:

The Jacobs Energy team provides a range of services to our gas transmission and distribution clients including the design of their system assets and the planning of the future networks. Our team has a strong focus on innovation and supporting industries and organisations driving the decarbonisation of our energy systems. We mostly focus at a high pressure gas transmission level work but we do carry out work at lower pressures (distribution) levels where this is associated with our prime focus.

We wish to appoint an innovative individual who can help to manage our gas transmission and distribution team to focus not only on our core clients but explore new clients as the Energy Transition builds momentum with a particular focus on the role that hydrogen will play in the decarbonization of the gas network and the effects that will have on our clients. The role will require liaising directly with clients and helping to grow our workload centered around design, providing support at optioneering, feasibility, conceptual and detail design phases of projects.

The candidate needs to be strong technically and can utilise their skills to drive growth in our business and our people.

This opportunity is to support our activities in gas transmission and distribution design supporting National Grid and DNO frameworks and other major energy clients.

The Role

As a senior member of our team you’ll be providing overview of a range of services from feasibility designs, route optioneering studies, conceptual designs through to detail designs and compliance checks throughout the design process on all elements of the high pressure gas transmission and distribution networks. Typically, projects will be associated with new gas pipelines, pipeline diversions, new connections to the transmission system, new flow control, pressure reduction and storage installations and modifications to existing installations. You will also need to apply your knowledge to the planning and design of new hydrogen and CCS networks.

In your role, you’ll be required to support the management of the multi-disciplinary gas transmission and distribution project teams including Mechanical, Civil & Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, Geotechnical, Environmental, Cathodic Protection, CAD and Project Managers, supporting them technically and mentoring the future engineers/problem solvers. You will also provide Project Design Management and Design Engineering for the full range of gas transmission/distribution design activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing innovative future thinking solutions to our core clients
  • Managing and coordinating bidding and tender activities for major new opportunities and projects
  • Supporting the growth of the team through input to the Growth Strategy and actively recruiting new talent into the team.
  • The management and coordination of project teams
  • Ensuring designs meet all the client’s scoping requirements and compliance with their technical specifications
  • Conducting engineering reviews, quality assurance checks and approval of design drawings, reports, programmes and other deliverables
  • Mentoring and developing the graduates and engineers in the team.
  • Actively promote a safe, fair, and collaborative work environment across the team.
  • Acting as a point of contact with clients on projects and Frameworks.

    You need a passion for solving problems, helping lead project teams and using your expertise to guide other members of staff. You’ll also require the ability to lead bid preparation, deliver to tight timescales, be technically accurate and to manage a number of schemes simultaneously, either as the lead or as part of a team. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and excellent quantitative and problem-solving skills are essential as part of this role.

    Essential :

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or Masters in a relevant discipline, but candidates holding HNC/ HND qualifications and proven ability will also be considered
  • Membership of IGEM, IMechE, IChemE, IET or similar Engineering Institution
  • Proven experience of managing a team and preferably multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proven technical ability in the design and application of UK Gas transmission infrastructure projects.
