This is a Kick Start Post and therefore you must meet the following criteria to apply:

– be aged between 18 – 24 years old

– be in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance

This is a great opportunity to join our finance team, learn new skills and play an important part in the support services at Awen. You will be required to assist in day to day finance activities with principle duties including purchase ledger and supplier payments.

There is potential of a full apprenticeship for the right candidate.

  • Process sales invoices and credit notes, updating ledgers and maintaining customer accounts in a timely manner

  • Ensure customer statements are sent out, up to date and contain the correct information in line with working procedures

  • Process all supplier invoices in a timely manner so that the monthly management accounts have accurate information.

  • Schedule supplier payments and meeting those deadlines set, dealing with supplier enquiries, including the management of related BACS processes.

  • Ensure any ad hoc payments requested are entered on the bank GL in Awen’s Financial Software.

  • Record any money received by cheque/cash in Awen’s Financial Software and carryout all associated tasks in line with procedural deadlines.

  • Ensure month end duties are completed within agreed deadlines – including but not limited to – debtor & creditor checks, franking machine report and financial system entry to P&L on usage.

  • Update prices and cost of sales information into the Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) System at Bryngarw, providing advice to staff where required and liaising with EPOS provider to resolve matters. Undertake general administrative tasks including but not limited to managing the accounts email inbox responding to queries or escalating where necessary and filing paperwork in line with filing guidelines.

  • Undertake general administrative tasks including but not limited to managing the accounts email inbox.

  • Provide scheduled and ad-hoc reports on financial processing using Awen’s financial software.

  • Assist with internal audits in the organisation and monitoring compliance with internal financial controls.

Qualifications, Skills, Abilities and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 GCSE’s (Grade a – c) including Mathematics and English or equivalent/be able to demonstrate through competence (E)

  • Studying towards or willing to study towards AAT Qualification (E)

  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as a key member of a team (E)

  • Ability to work in a multi-faceted role and deliver outcomes to tight deadlines (E)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills (E)

  • Good time management and ability to follow instructions (E)

  • Strong administration skills with a methodical approach and attention to detail (E)

  • Excellent ICT skills including Microsoft 365 and Excel (E)

  • Ability to deal carefully with sensitive and confidential information (E)

  • Excellent numeracy skills including collation and reporting of detailed financial data/reporting (E)

  • A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle for work purposes

  • Ability to speak Welsh

  • Experience of bank and project reconciliation

  • Formal ICT qualification or ability to demonstrate competence through experience
