Cafcass is the voice of the child in family court. As an experienced social worker, you’ll be a Family Court Adviser, using your skills and knowledge to secure the best future for every child. With young lives depending on you, we’ll do all we can to help you succeed in your role.

If you enjoy fast-paced work, you will be at home in our friendly Early Intervention Team (EIT). Working predominantly over the phone, you will work with families up until the first court hearing. Based in the field of private law, you will interview parents, carry out safeguarding checks, write up your recommendations and attend court to give your expert opinion. On average, you’ll write around six short reports a week. The team is a busy one and as a result the team has expanded to meet demand.

We are currently recruiting for two full time roles in our EIT team. The office location might be based in Swindon, Reading, Oxford, or Bristol.

This is what our EIT service manager has told us to be successful in this role:

“You have to be motivated and committed to achieving best outcomes for children. You also have to have the resilience to work in a fast paced and at times pressurised environment but you will get excellent support and a thorough, structured induction that equips you to do the job”.

With such a pivotal role to play, you’ll need strong analytical and risk assessment skills. It’s also important that you’re highly organised, as you’ll be managing your diary, scheduling calls and working autonomously. You will need to be someone who is self-reflective, takes on board constructive feedback and embraces learning in order to enhance your practice. And of course, you need to be passionate about getting things right for children and young people and produce high quality work.

Whatever your career path so far to be considered for this role we need you to have:

  • At least three years’ post-qualifying experience working with vulnerable children and families.
  • Registered with Social Work England
  • Demonstrable court experience and recent front-line social work experience
  • Resilience to work in a busy team
  • Excellent IT skills
