Your Impact:

The Engineer – Construction Materials will be member of the Intelligent Asset Management & Assurance Practice of Strategic Consulting and will be responsible for delivering work for our internal and external clients as a practitioner in materials technology. Examples of work include durability modelling and assessment of key construction materials (concrete, grout, steel and polymers), involving desk studies and onsite inspection work.

You will work closely with colleagues in the Durability & Materials team, the wider IAM&A Practice and beyond to support the development of the business, for example, by assisting in the preparation and delivery of presentations and proposals. It is anticipated that the base office will be London (Cottons Centre) but flexibility to work across the UK or overseas on short consultancy assignments from time to time will be necessary.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Degree qualified in relevant engineering (Civil/ Chemical) and/or Materials discipline
  • Experience in materials consultancy (including on site) and project delivery
  • Knowledge and experience on construction materials, essentially concrete, in the following key areas: key principles and best practice for new-built construction and repair applications deterioration mechanisms and associated models, including use of standard software assessment and specification using UK/EU codes and standard national guidance investigation and assessment of deterioration and defects, visually and by testing sustainability, climate resilience, carbon management, innovation
  • Collaborative approach internally and externally, with a strong teamwork ethic, excellent communication and presentation/report-writing skills and ability to build strong client connections
  • Ability to work under pressure and to very tight deadlines, with a high level of personal accountability
