We have an exciting opportunity within our Navigation services in Northampton, where you will join our friendly and inspiring team as an Employment Support Worker. Your role will be a fixed term position until 31st March 2022 working full time, 35 hours per week based in the community. You will need to be able to work flexibly as you will be working as part of a rota.

Our navigation services provides care and support for individuals transitioning from a secure care setting into the community and back into work. We have a full integrated multi-disciplinary team working alongside mental health professionals to support patients with personalised support, and most importantly delivering great outcomes for people using the service.

What will you be doing?

You will be supporting individuals who have experienced mental health problems and are seeking employment or appropriate training opportunities. This will include:

  • Managing a caseload of between 20-30 individuals at any one time who are currently off work / unemployed, receiving specialist mental health services and wish to return to work
  • Preparing individuals for a return to work by supporting the individual to understand their skills, aspirations and goals through vocational profiling and action planning.
  • Focusing on rapid job search with the individual, whilst utilising local support networks to help them overcome their barriers to employment.
  • Spending time getting to know local employers, in order to negotiate job opportunities that meet each individual’s strengths, needs, abilities and preferences.
  • Build relationships with clinical teams to generate referrals and create a collaborative working partnership with NHS clinicians where employment support is integrated into mental health treatment.
  • Building a multi-disciplinary approach to the return to work. For example, involve clinical staff (where relevant) in managing symptoms at work, medication reviews and supporting rehabilitation needs e.g. social skill development, budgeting, travel training etc.
  • Do you have what we are looking for?

  • Knowledge of disability and special needs issues, policies and legislation in relation to employment
  • A good understanding of the principles and practice of supported employment
  • Excellent coaching and active listening skills, ability to ask perceptive questions that tease out important information through mentoring and coaching
  • Working knowledge and understanding of mental health and the ability to recognize the indicators of deteriorating mental health.
  • Previous experience in a comparable role.
  • You will be working within the community and therefore travelling will be required. We therefore need you to have a driving licence with access to your own transport.
