Support Team Assistant

Fixed term contract – 6 months / Permanent 

Full time (37.5 hours per week) 5/7 incl. weekends, any time from 8.00-20.00 so you must be flexible

Shifts can be between 7.5 hours to 10 hours 

Location: Harplands Hospital, ST4 6RR

Salary: £9.23 per hour plus enhancements for night shifts or weekend work.

About the Role:
As the Support Team Assistant, you will be responsible for infection control through cleaning and maintaining the work area in line with work schedules in an efficient manner, ensuring a safe environment for all. Duties will include cleaning floors, work surfaces, furnishings and related equipment. You will empty, dispose and replace clinical and domestic waste as directed and that all equipment and materials required to perform all cleaning tasks are maintained in a hygienic and safe condition across the wards, including bedroom and bathroom areas. Hospital cleaning is a vital part of overall health and safety, as it’s a major contributor to controlling the spread of infections.

You will also be responsible for setting tables, using a probe thermometer to check internal food temperatures and serving patients three meals per day, in addition to any drinks and snacks required, ensuring the tea trolley is always topped up. You will liaise with the nurses and catering staff regarding numbers of patients and any special food requirements, to guarantee patients are provided with the correct meals. You may also help and support patients in choosing their food and drinks where necessary and clean up any dishes after meals.

Please be aware that this is a fast paced and busy environment, hospitals require a lot of work to ensure patients are safe and support team assistant roles require a lot of physical and manual work. You will also be expected to work 10 hour shifts on some days dependent upon service delivery. 

About you
You will be interacting daily with patients whilst also maintaining a clean and infection free environment. It is therefore important for the successful candidate to be helpful, friendly, professional and compassionate with all patients, visitors and staff in the Unit. Good communication is extremely important, and we are looking for enthusiastic candidates who have a passion for working within a hospital environment.
