About the opportunity:
EDF are leading the UK’s nuclear renaissance, we’re constructing a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C, with plans for new power stations at Sizewell C in Suffolk and Bradwell B in Essex. Around a fifth of the UK’s electricity is generated by our eight nuclear power stations, helping power our customers’ homes and businesses.
The Delivery Engineer will be responsible for considering all aspects of the planning of a designated section of the works on the Hinkley Point C project. This will involve conducting integrated and cross-cutting coordination reviews of construction preparation, looking at arrangements in detail from wider perspectives to provide oversight, ensuring pre-requisites, dependencies and constraints are managed in a balanced and integrated approach to ensure the activities on the site run safely and smoothly and in accordance with the project schedule (IWS84). The primary objective will be to identify and eliminate any issues prior to the work commencing on the site and will involve interfacing with the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Multi-discipline teams.
Advocating safe and effective planning of works for site construction.
Ensuring that conventional and nuclear safety considerations are recognised as essential to the success of the project and built into the planning processes.
Ensuring that detailed plans are developed to a facility and/or area basis which integrate co-ordinate and sequence work activities to achieve the optimum construction sequence paying particular attention to contractor interfaces.
Looking ahead to identify risks and developing mitigating options in sufficient time so as not to impact the construction site performance.
Supporting development of a construction execution plan that clearly identifies site need dates for critical equipment and materials (16 Week Look Ahead Schedule)
Developing detailed access routes for personnel and equipment, identifying suitability of the access routes, impacts to other work activities and identification of temporary access openings for equipment installation, specifically within their area, and the interface into adjacent areas.
Working closely with the design and procurement groups to conduct constructability reviews
Fostering and promoting Area Management collaboration between Delivery Integration, Integrated Project Controls, MDT team members and supply chain partners
Implementing seamless working arrangements with the Engineering Command Centre (RD and JDO) and the Site Command Centre
Supporting the PM in implementing a construction readiness review process on work scope packages based on complexity.
Understanding that the work processes are governed by processes and procedures and working to ensure they are adhered to.
Participates in the PM led gateway review process.
Encouraging the development of HPC lessons learned to support future project execution.
Providing early team engagement and construction input to supply chain contract
Promoting the schedule development with a construction focused approach.
Ensuring strong ties to engineering and equipment deliverables are made and maintained.
Integrating the supply chain partners’ resources to maximize their expertise and skill set when developing the schedule and construction strategies
Supporting a coordinated and holistic approach to the provision of common shared services such as scaffold, temporary HVAC and electrical services.
Recognizing the importance of other supporting activities such as laydown areas, and work area coordination for activities such as housekeeping and work face storage.
Recognizing the high-quality standards of construction that will be required when constructing a nuclear facility and ensuring these are incorporated in the planning of work completion.

Good working knowledge of commercial principles affecting construction matters.

Awareness of project change control and, risk management processes.
Extensive working knowledge in the delivery of large complex construction projects.
Depending on the Areas in which certain Delivery Engineers will operate, some Delivery Engineers will have specific job skills such as Navisworks, Synchro 4D, database management or PowerBI development.
Understanding of planning tools including Navisworks and Primavera P6.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Equivalent in Construction Management or related subject or a demonstrable level of experience based on years of experience (5 plus years) and project assignments.
5 years’ experience in delivering highly complex projects
Experience operating in a high security environment advantageous.
In-depth knowledge and experience of programme progress and forecast position and planning.
Strong communication skills in English required, knowledge of French can be an advantage.
