Your Impact:

In 2016, East Sussex County Council awarded a 7 year Highways Infrastructure Services Contract to maintain and improve our highway network. Costain & Jacobs formed a Joint Venture to deliver the end to end Highways Service. The service covers management of stakeholder and maintenance of all aspects of the Highway, including street lighting, traffic and signals, drainage, carriageways, footways, bridges and structures. The customer is at the heart of everything we do and we consistently strive to deliver a great customer experience.

In this interesting and diverse role at the heart of East Sussex Highways and local government you’ll work closely with all teams across the highway services. You will be the first point of contact for customers and will provide professional responses via the phone, email and letter. You will take ownership of customer queries, seeing them through from start to completion within given timescales.


Here’s What You’ll Need:

• 3 GCSEs pass at grade C or above (or equivalent) including English 
• Experience in a customer focused environment 
• Excellent customer service skills
• Excellent listening and communications skills via all channels (telephone, letter, email, in person)
• Good IT skills including word processing and recording information while on the phone
• Able to handle demanding customers
• Able to convey information clearly and succinctly
• Good telephone manner
• Time Management
• Organisational skills
• Accuracy/attention to detail
• Ability to work to deadlines

We particularly welcome applications from candidates who have the following:

• NVQ in Customer Service or other relevant subject.
• Contact centre experience
• Knowledge of Highway matters
