This is a fixed term contract opportunity

Job purpose: The Exit & Transition Manager will define and guide the effective exit of existing services contracted to support key DCC services and the transition to new disaggregated contracted services. You will:

  • Develop a clear understanding of the existing components of the services in terms of people, process and particularly technology, including analysis of issues and changes to operational or administrative processes;
  • Define the activities required to exit the contract(s) safely from an operational and commercial perspective and enact a safe transition of services under new contract(s); and
  • Work with Programme teams, SMEs and wider Commercial function to develop an initial view of the likely impact of transition for each procurement and the possible options, test timelines and set expectations within the procurement process.

Key accountabilities:

  • Lead on behalf of the Contract Management team the following tasks;
    • Effective contract exit management of key contracts; and
    • Effective transition planning that will achieve the DCCs goals.
  • Collaborate with the wider commercial function and Programme team to develop and maintain plans and actions that will deliver a safe contract exit;
  • Lead as the SME and provide in-depth knowledge of contract exit and transition best practice;
  • Ensure compliance with the DCC licence to ensure adherence to licence conditions.Ensure that all necessary stakeholders (internal and external) are communicated with and aligned to the actions of effective Contract Exit Management;
  • Input into functional registers for e.g. risk, non-compliant activity, commercial cost savings etc;
  • Maintain comprehensive audit trails and justifications for price control;
  • Contribute to the Knowledge Management work of the commercial function.

Skills, know-how and experience:

Must have:

  • Demonstrable experience in managing complex operational and technical change in an environment that trades in or around essential national infrastructure and ideally within a regulated environment – or comparable complex industries;
  • In-depth knowledge of the implications of contract exit and strategic service transition of contracts with a significant value (>£100 million whole life cost);
  • Confident in the effective management of C-Suite level stakeholders and suppliers to facilitate decisions that are in the company’s best interest;
  • Strongeye for detail;
  • Proven, creative problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent People Management & Leadership skills;
  • Degree educated and preferably with a second degree in a related field – MSc / MBA etc;
  • Experience of working in a multi project, multi-workstream matrix environment.


  • Knowledge of contract law;
  • Professional qualification e.g. CIPS, ACCA, Legal;
  • Understanding of supplier management frameworks, techniques and their implementation.
