The Contract Management team sits within the Global Consultancy and Business Services group in Cultural Engagement. The purpose of the team is to provide essential contract management services to support the ambitions of the British Council and to empower informed decision-making, risk management & compliance at all stages of the programme/project lifecycle. This is done for commercial & non- commercial contracts & paid services across Cultural Engagement and E&E globally
To provide the following: training and capacity building in Contract Management supply guidance and advice on contract management supply guidance and advice on standard British Council templates and Funder/Client contracts / procurement requirements input into policy setting and development of tools, templates and guidance management and development of the Global Model Contracts Portal
The Contract Consultant is responsible for managing a number of contract enquiries. The role provides essential level skills, knowledge and technical expertise in contract management, procurement and capability building.
The role’s purpose is to provide contract management advice and guidance to Cultural Engagement and English & Exams (E&E) globally, in order to support the pursuit and delivery of business opportunities that maximise benefits to the British Council and minimise risks. This will be undertaken in accordance with agreed policies and procedures, whilst supporting the development of the organisations’ capability in contract management.
The role will support the Senior Contract Consultants with growing internal capability, knowledge and the portfolio through supporting risk management in the contracting that is undertaken.
Contracting and risk management services Provide a responsive, professional and customer-focused contract management advisory services to a range of internal clients/stakeholders (from Cultural Engagement, the regions and other SBUs), to support the effective pursuit and ongoing management of commercial and other opportunities in accordance with best practice standards. Contribute to the delivery of high quality procurement and contract management policies, protocols, systems and processes (aligned to wider corporate frameworks), to ensure that the organisation’s approach to product/programme development, contractual negotiations and business delivery are managed to maximise benefits and minimise risks to the organisation. Personally provide advice, guidance and challenge to colleagues on, enquiries to ensure the business receives the support it requires on a range of compliance and contracting issues
Strategy and Planning Contribute to the implementation of the Contract Management Team Plan and priorities Contribute to specific initiatives and projects across Cultural Engagement, as required
Business Management, Development and Delivery Leads on a number of contract enquiries, applying technical knowledge to change, transform and deliver outcomes. Manages team members (where applicable) and work plans to deliver impact to ensure global standards are met. This includes compliance with the project management standards, contractual obligations and alignment to corporate policies Provides contract management technical input into projects and programmes in the UK and overseas Produces business performance reports and management information Undertakes financial tasks including reconciling budgets, reporting and raising POs where appropriate Responsible for following the processes and procedures that are in place for storage and filing of contractual enquiries and documentation, in order to ensure an audit trail and compliance with contract retention policy. Works as part of a proposal team, advising on contract risks and reviewing pre- bid agreements and NDAs etc.

Representation Representing Contract Management, Cultural Engagement, and the British Council, through meetings with Internal/external clients, stakeholders, customers, partners and suppliers Articulates and escalates key messages, risks and issues to the Senior Contract Consultant and relevant stakeholders.
ABOUT YOU Experience of contracting, contract management and related legal areas in international contexts. Understanding of UK contract law and statutory requirements and how these are applied in a programme / project management context. Competent across the range of IT systems and packages used by the business (SAP, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, database design and maintenance). Project Management Experience Knowledge and understanding of the procurement principles
