We are looking for a dynamic community engagement professional to support delivery of our new Community Engagement Strategy, which has the following objectives:

  • There is a growing awareness nationally that the Ambulance Sector can do more to address health inequalities and support people to stay healthy. Our Community Engagement Strategy recognises the importance of working with communities across Yorkshire to understand what we can do to improve their health, especially those that we know will need our services or struggle to access them. 

    This is a key role in supporting our strategy. The post holder will develop, lead and coordinate a range of community engagement activities, working with communities across Yorkshire.

    Main duties of the job

    Our Community Engagement Team work with our staff, our volunteers and our partners to reach out to communities across Yorkshire to provide training and education, and to build relationships with them and understand them so that we can provide better services and support people to improve their health.

    The post holder will develop and lead a range of community engagement programmes that help Yorkshire Ambulance Service reduce health inequalities, support people to access the right services, help people learn life-saving skills and improve our services.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    The post holder will:

  • Develop and lead community engagement programmes that use involvement, co-production, training and education to deliver the objectives within the Trust’s Community Engagement Strategy.
  • Coordinate community engagement activities, working across organisational boundaries to establish and deliver programmes of work.
  • Develop programme and project plans to support delivery of the Trust’s Community Engagement Strategy.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establish and lead project teams within YAS and across organisational boundaries, to support the delivery of community engagement programmes.
  • Develop content and materials for community engagement.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of community engagement activities and programmes.
  • Design, develop and deliver education and training interventions, and community involvement activities.
  • Use public engagement approaches to involve community members in the design, delivery and evaluation of training and education programmes.
  • Use public engagement approaches to seek out the views of the communities we are working with and their representatives.
  • Represent YAS at internal and external meetings.
  • Deputise for the Community Engagement Manager as required.
  • Act as an ambassador for community engagement within the Trust, participating in workstreams with colleagues as appropriate.
  • Attend key internal and external meetings to identify opportunities to deliver against the objectives within the Community Engagement Strategy.
  • The role involves planning, designing and delivering engagement activities for adults and young people with complex needs who may present with challenging behaviour.

  • Facilitation skills, including the ability to deliver training and community engagement activities
  • Able to plan engagement activities or, and work directly with, vulnerable adults and young people who may present with challenging behaviour
  • Able to manage complex engagement programmes involving internal and external stakeholders

  • Experience designing, delivering and evaluating a range of community engagement activities
  • Experience working in a complex multi-agency environment
  • Educated to degree level or have equivalent experience

Many of our posts are subject to a Disclosure & Barring Service check (DBS). Should this position be subject to a DBS check the cost will be recovered from your salary as a one-off payment. Currently the charges made by the Disclosure and Barring Service are £44.00 for an enhanced­ check and £26 for a standard check.
