Our Vacancy

The purpose of the Commercial Officer is to provide commercial support to key projects and services globally, working alongside project managers to manage commercial risk and opportunities, ensuring that JFD’s commercial position is optimised and that the exposure of the global JFD business to commercial risk is properly assessed and controlled.

The Commercial Officer will be responsible and accountable for effective management of JFD Commercial activities including:

  • Commercial support to a large and diverse global organisation, delivering major equipment projects and long-term critical services to government (Defence) customers and commercial customers (Oil & Gas, Shipbuilding);
  • Building relationships and networks, internally and externally;
  • Work within integrated project teams providing commercial support and advice to Project Managers;
  • Identifying and mitigating key risks in existing contracts;
  • Identify and maximise opportunities in existing contracts;
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating terms and conditions for subcontracts, Purchase Orders and Contract Change Forms;
  • Supporting the Senior Commercial Officer with developing and implementing commercial strategy;
  • Support Procurement with Supplier ITT for major projects;
  • Supporting delivery and acceptance of all contract deliverables ensuring prompt payment by Customers.
  • Management of bonds and guarantees;
  • Prevention & resolution of legal and commercial disputes and claims (customer and supplier);
  • Ongoing management of supplier warranty and warranty defects;
  • Support to bids.
  • Critical success measures:

  • Additions to existing contracts – and major subcontracts with maximum commercial advantages and protections for JFD;
  • Prevention & resolution of legal and commercial disputes (customer and supplier);
  • Management of customers and suppliers, maximising recovery and minimising additional costs for JFD in the context of contract changes and ensuring all commercial opportunities for JFD pursued.
  • On time payment and sustaining margin on projects.
  • Who we are looking for

  • Commercially astute with solid grounding in a project based environments managing multiple commercial issues across high value, high risk projects and services dealing with multiple customers and suppliers.
  • Experience of dealing with customers and suppliers in the following sectors would be a distinct advantage: Defence/Government Procurement, Oil & Gas, Shipbuilding, Major Projects;
  • Experience of customer and supplier negotiation;
  • Risk Management experience;
  • Robust personality and ability to build strong relationships internally and externally;
  • Have a sound knowledge and understanding of complex contracts and commercial principles in relation to the delivery of major projects and services;
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a well-knit team in a sometimes highly pressurised environment with tight deadlines;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Must be highly self-motivated and capable of using own initiative
  • At ease dealing directly with colleagues, senior management, customers and suppliers.
  • Preferably qualified to a Degree level in a relevant subject
