The role of the BMS Technician is to support the wider operational team in close co-operation with other Estates staff at all levels in the maintenance of the Trust’s buildings and grounds with special emphasis on ensuring a suitable environment for patient care is available at all times.
The role involves two main areas of work: Building Management Systems management, and an element of Energy Management. The major area will be Building Management Systems (BMS) where the post holder will be expected to ensure that the BMS is maintained in accordance with the department’s Building Management Systems policies.
The post holder is responsible for maintaining and upgrading the Trust’s Building Management Systems, seeking to measurably improve efficiency of these systems, particularly with regard to energy use.
The post holder will form part of a multi-disciplined team whose role is to provide the best possible service to York Teaching Hospital NHS Facilities Management (YTHFM).

Main duties of the job
You will also be expected to liaise closely with the Trust Energy Manager for ensuring that energy is monitored and utilised efficiently, you will need to communicate with the Trust Energy Manager and other colleagues via various working groups on a regular basis to determine the long-term strategy of the BMS system throughout all Trust premises.
To support the maintenance staff in providing an efficient repair and improvement service responsive to the day-to-day need of all Wards and Departments, and where possible, provide an installation input into improvements and adaptations in so far as it relates to the BMS.
Provide detailed professional and technical advice to staff and contractors on issues that are complex and non-routine.
As part of the role, you will be expected to attend training courses to ensure they will keep up to date with current statutory and mandatory regulations.
The post holder will be ultimately responsible for the day-to-day operation of the BMS system.
