    Introduction to the role:

    This role provides the opportunity to join one of the fastest growing business groups of Hill Dickinson. The Health Business Group has been growing year-on-year with a team of over 70+ lawyers and national coverage. We are one of the leading national law firms providing legal advice and support to the NHS and independent health sector organisations.

    Our dedicated Health Commercial team is now looking to recruit an ambitious Associate or Senior Associate to work on a wide range of health commercial, governance and regulatory matters for the NHS and private sector organisations operating in the health and social care sector. 

    You will be given plenty of client responsibility and exposure whilst being part of a supportive and collaborative team environment.

    Introduction to the team:

    Experts in their field, the Health Commercial team advises NHS bodies, independent sector providers of health services and others operating in the health sector (including healthtech start-ups and organisations) on a broad range of complex commercial and contractual, governance and regulatory issues. As well as CCGs, NHS trusts and foundation trusts, local authorities and primary care providers, the team advises key national organisations including NHS England, Health Education England, the Care Quality Commission and the NHS Business Services Authority. Our work with the independent sector includes work on healthtech initiatives and projects, with the team advising start-ups and more established innovators in the field on commercial and regulatory matters.

    Key responsibilities could include elements of the following:

  • Advising on a broad range of day to day commercial, contractual and regulatory matters
  • Advising on commercial contracting structures used within both the commissioner and provider sectors, including NHS Standard Form Contracts, service level agreements and primary care contracts
  • Advising on innovative contracting and collaborative models of commissioning and care provision, including contractual joint ventures, alliance agreements and partnering arrangements
  • Advising on commercial and governance structures and arrangements as part of the establishment and implementation of integrated care systems and integrated care
  • Advising on public bodies’ governance and constitutional issues, conflicts and vires
  • Advising on public procurement processes
  • Advising on major transactions, mergers and acquisitions involving health and other public sector bodies
  • Advising healthtech providers (including NHS organisations and private providers) on commercial and regulatory issues, including information governance requirements
  • Advising on and drafting information governance arrangements, such as data sharing and data processing agreements, and data protection and FOI contractual clauses, and advising on data transfers
  • Supporting business development strategies of the team and wider business group and presenting as the face of the firm to clients and intermediaries
  • Working with the wider team to proactively promote and raise the profile of Hill Dickinson on a national footprint, including attending networking events
  • Developing your own relationships with clients / intermediaries
  • What we are looking for

    We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious Associate or Senior Associate who wants to work collaboratively to contribute to the further development and growth of the Health Commercial team at Hill Dickinson.

    Essential:

  • Law degree (or equivalent)
  • Solid experience in commercial matters ideally within the sector but other relevant experience will be considered
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and develop relationships within the wider team
  • Willingness to take responsibility and ownership of client work, with supervision as appropriate
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure
  • Ability to play a proactive part in business development and profile raising activity
  • Positive attitude and interest in exploring and learning about new and unfamiliar legal areas
  • Ability to adapt approach and advice to client requirements and needs and changes within the health sector
  • Ability to work flexibly and proactively
