Jacobs have an excellent opportunity available for an Apprentice Transport Planning Technician to join their growing team based in the Newcastle Quayside. The role provides the opportunity to work on a varied range of transport projects across the region and wider UK, whilst undertaking part time studies on the exciting new Transport Planning Degree Apprenticeship course at Aston University in Birmingham.

The successful applicant will work within our team of Transport Planners, assisting with the production of transport strategies, traffic models and business cases. They can expect to work on a range of exciting and innovative projects which cover a variety of modes, including road, rail, aviation, walking and cycling.

About the role: 

As an Apprentice Technician in Transport Planning, you will be involved in delivering a wide range of transportation projects for various high-profile clients locally, nationally and globally. In fulfilling this role, you will begin to develop knowledge and experience of using design standards and guidance, standard software packages and recognised appraisal techniques to deliver a variety of projects to our clients. The diversity of our project portfolio provides opportunities for our employees to work on exciting projects located across the UK or abroad regardless of their seniority.

You will contribute to a team of consultants working on a variety of transport planning projects. Responsibilities will include assisting with:

  • the planning and design of transport and traffic plans, schemes and systems;
  • collecting, preparing and presenting data, written information and analysis to inform the development of transport projects;
  • modelling transport and traffic systems to assess the impacts of proposed transport measures; and
  • the successful delivery of projects working as a member of a team.

    Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Three A Levels (or equivalent) – Maths, Geography or Economics would be advantageous
  • At least Grade 4 or C GCSE English and Grade 5 or C GCSE Maths.
  • Desirable:

  • An interest in transport planning infrastructure, urban growth and environment
  • Confident communications skills both written and verbal 
  • Strong numeracy skills 
  • Experience of using MS office packages; particularly Microsoft Excel and Word
