Job Title: Apprentice Mechatronics Engineer

Location: Great Western Hospital – Swindon, Swindon SN3 6BB

Working Week:  37.5 hours a week

Salary:  Up to £10,553 per annum plus benefits & 25 days annual leave

Apprenticeship Qualification:  L3 Engineering Technician (Mechatronics)

Expected Apprenticeship Duration: 42 Months to end point assessment.

Here at Serco we are looking for an Apprentice Mechatronics Engineer to join our team at Great Western Hospital Swindon.

We provide a FM contract which includes a variety of Hard FM services including Electrical and Mechanical Engineering/Maintenance of the hospital estate. In addition to this we provide a number of Soft FM services including Housekeeping & domestics, portering and catering.

Key accountabilities:

To complete an approved apprenticeship with the aim of carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance activities to items of heating, cooling, ventilation, AHU’s, Chillers, hot and cold water plant, BMS, control systems, Macerators, Pumps

  • To work on Mechanical, Electro mechanical and control systems under supervision and as part of progression/training.
  • Fault finding and rectification of plant and equipment under supervision and as part of progression/training.
  • Maintain records of tools and spares and report this as required.
  • To understand and work within the Health and Safety standards set by the business.
  • Will work towards achieving a recognised Qualification with the aim of becoming a qualified Mechatronics Engineer; namely an Advanced (Level 3) Apprenticeship lasting approximately four years, with an Intermediate level achieved after approximately two years.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and new legislation.

    About the role

    You’ll be contribute towards the delivery of a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors within our contract at Great Western Hospital Swindon. You’ll assist in maintaining high standards of courteous interactions with all individuals including patients, staff, Trust staff and Serco Colleagues – whilst complying with health and safety, environmental, sustainability and building regulations and standards including specific healthcare requirements.

    You’ll demonstrate a range of fundamental skills including the interpretation of technical specifications. You’ll respond to reactive maintenance issues, including carrying out repairs, fault finding, servicing commissioning and maintenance, seeking to support the return of plant, building services and systems back to being fully operational at the earliest opportunity

    As part of our apprenticeship scheme you’ll be enrolled on Engineering Technician (Mechatronics) qualification (delivered by New College Swindon).     About you

    To be successful in this role you will need to be organised, able to deliver first class customer service with strong communication skills. The role requires you to be able to balance conflicting priorities to ensure effective service delivery so you’ll need to be comfortable managing multi task at once.

    You’ll demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop your skills and knowledge as outlined in the Apprentice Standard whilst having a keen eye for detail within your work. Lastly you’ll need to have a GCSE grade 5 (C in old scale) in Maths and English and Science alongside 2 additional subjects or functional skills level 2.
