An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Neurological Occupational Therapist to work as part of the Adult Community Rehabilitation Team. This post will give you the opportunity to broaden your core skills and knowledge base in the field of progressive and non-progressive neurological rehabilitation. This post would suit an individual who is interested in developing their skills in community based neuro- rehabilitation.

The Adult Community Rehab Team is a forward thinking service that provides inter-disciplinary rehab to adults living in the clinically, economically and culturally diverse borough of Hackney and the City of London. The team is split into two specialist branches (neurological conditions and physical conditions) and consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech & Language Therapists, Clinical & Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Assistants. The team is supported by a Consultant Allied Health Professional, Consultant Neuropsychologist and a Consultant Neurologist. 

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the role involved the assessment and treatment of adults with progressive and non-progressive neurological conditions e.g. Acquired Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Functional Neurological Disorders.

You would work alongside the MDT to support client’s to identify goals for treatment and provide the necessary interventions to achieve these goals.

Education / Skills / Experince / Knowlwdge

Essential criteria

  • Degree / Diploma in Occupational therapy
  • HCPC
  • Ability to assess and implement appropriate treatment for a range of progressive and non-progressive neurological conditions.
  • Able to manage caseload and to prioritise under pressure.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills with all disciplines and clients to optimise management.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the provision of occupational therapy within the team.
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively within a multi professional team setting
  • General experience at a basic level.
  • Experience in neurology.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Trust Values
  • Desirable criteria

  • Member of relevant special interest group.
  • Fieldwork accreditation
  • Fabrication of thermoplastic upper limb orthosis
