Main duties of the job

Modality Specific Duties Interventional Radiography

  • As a senior radiographer in intervention, contribute to an essential and comprehensive Interventional Radiography Service.
  • Participate in a wide range of specialised examinations to a high standard using relevant practical expertise and highly specialised/complex equipment.
  • Undertake training to the level of Intermediate Life Support and be competent in the use of a semi-automatic defibrillator.
  • Preparation and administration of contrast media.
  • Load, prime and set the specialist injector pump (volume, flow rate, pressure) in accordance with written procedures to avoid potentially life threatening complications.
  • At the instruction of the consultant radiologist, commence the injection of contrast media in order to synchronise contrast delivery and image acquisition. This requires a high degree of accuracy to ensure optimal contrast enhancement and to limit radiation exposure to patients.
  • Actively monitor the patient during intravenous administration of contrast via the specialist injector pump to ensure patient comfort and safety due to the high volume and flow rate required.
  • Assist consultant radiologists in performing aseptic and sterile interventional examinations.
  • Assist consultant radiologists during interventional examinations by ensuring appropriate catheters, stents and pharmaceuticals are available throughout the entire examination.
