Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To engage with young people and their families/carers accessing SARC, taking into account their needs, background, rights and current circumstances and establishing trust, confidence and facilitating communication.
  • To advise the young person and their parents/carers of the context of services within the safeguarding and criminal justice frameworks
  • To empower and enable young people accessing SARC to take age appropriate responsibility for their own decisions and ensure that relevant and up to date information and advice is available at all times, so that they can make an informed choice.
  • To provide contact to parent and/or carer within 72 hours of initial attendance at SARC to offer advocacy as required
  • To provide face to face and telephone support services to young people and their families/carers, both short and long term
  • To complete an assessment of the young persons emotional and health needs and make the appropriate referrals
  • To liaise with the police and criminal justice agencies on behalf of the young person, parent/carer, adhering to the confidentiality policy in relation to release of information
  • To provide support to clients during the trial phase in conjunction with other services and including pre court visits if appropriate
  • To liaise with the investigating officer in the case in relation to witness statements, case progression and court result
  • To liaise with the Crown Prosecution Service in respect of case progression and communication with client. Where available this will be the specialist rape team /CPS and will include discussion and if necessary facilitate meetings between clients and CPS and advocacy in relation to criminal justice outcomes as directed by CPS best practice.
  • To maintain records and case tracking systems relating to cases
  • To participate in case conference review when required
  • To participate in regular supervision
  • To work as part of the multidisciplinary team within SARC to deliver high quality care and support and to participate in the development of services
  • To participate in training and development of other staff and partner agencies when necessary and help to ensure a conducive learning environment
  • To consider safeguarding issues when engaging with clients and to follow all safeguarding policies and procedures
  • To deputise for the SARC manager on a day to day basis when the manager is absent
  • To adhere to all Health Board policies

  • Excellent and empathetic interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • To work in the UK, all candidates who are not UK or Republic of Ireland (RoI) nationals require sponsorship to obtain either a Health and Care visa or Skilled Worker visa , unless you have permission to work via another route. Non UK / RoI candidates wishing to apply should self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship by visiting Work in the UK .
