Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for ensuring that agreed standards of nursing care are achieved and maintained, and identify and report when standards are not being met.
  • To report changes in the child’s condition or behaviour to Team manager and/or Medical staff as appropriate within the parameters agreed within the childs care plan.
  • To ensure that the care given is achieved in the most effective and efficient manner commensurate with sensitivity to childs and parents needs.
  • To develop and maintain knowledge and competency in using a wide range of technical equipment to provide optimal monitoring of a childs condition e.g. oxygen saturation monitoring, gastrostomy and jejinostomy feeding, suctioning.
  • To develop and maintain skills, competency and knowledge to assist in providing one to one care of child with complex health care needs.
  • To establish and maintain satisfactory professional relationships with colleagues/ the multi-agency team and parents and ensure that all relevant and required information is made available to them.
  • Involve other members of the multidisciplinary team in developing care plans appropriate to the needs of the child/ young person and his/her family.
  • 8. Carry out the agreed nursing interventions alone or with other members of the team, teaching skills and /or supervising other junior staff, including learners, as required.
