Job Title: Digital Communications Engineer

The End User Services team are currently supporting a large number of key projects including the migration to O, an Airwave device and smartphone refresh as well as a large tech refresh programme and require a number of IT technicians to help deliver these projects.

You will partake in computer builds using automated deployment tools, install and configure desktop and laptop machines and associated peripherals and facilitate large moves and change activity across the organisation.

You’ll ensure that all assets are managed and recorded so that devices can be audited at all times and you will provide advice and guidance in the use of equipment.

During the refresh programmes, you will be expected to undertake manual handling of computer equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a 2nd and 3rd line IT maintenance service; configure, install, relocate, upgrade and repair computer hardware, and peripherals.
  • Manually and through deployment tools install, configure, modify, and maintain standard and non-standard software and operating systems.
  • Assist colleagues to investigate hardware, environmental, network and software problems adhering to all local health and safety regulations.
  • Transport equipment and materials to any requested location (internal/external) to support section activities and any affiliates requiring our IT services.
  • Review and recommend updates to procedures where appropriate to support users in operating IT equipment and software.
  • Update the ICT Service Management tool and associated knowledge base on the repair of incidents, resolution of problems or progress of service requests.
  • Organise daily tasks to prioritise incidents and repairs in order to ensure minimum user disruption on devices and software, taking into account the relative priority of the issues allocated to the technician/team.
  • Physical ability – lifting, loading, and unloading on occasions heavy equipment safely in and around various office locations and at times off site locations specific to IT requirements
  • Requirements:

  • Experience of installing and supporting IT hardware, software and systems.
  • Operating Systems experience, specifically Microsoft Server and Win 10, however knowledge of other systems would be beneficial.
  • An ability to configure and diagnose faults on computer equipment.
  • An ability to prioritise your own workload while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Knowledge and experience working with technical IT teams.
  • An ability to bridge the gap between technical and business language, ensuring that the user understands any requests made of them.
  • Good communication skills
  • Full UK driving license
