We are looking for a Senior Environmental Advisor to join our Thames Tideway Framework, based in our Bermondsey, London office.

About the Project
Thames Tideway Tunnel Main Works East is a £650m Costain-Vinci-Bachy joint venture (“CVB”) which aims to achieve the ambitious target of “Reconnecting London with the River Thames” by tackling the issue of frequent untreated sewage spills into the river from London’s sewer network. This major project will provide a new sewage storage and transfer tunnel from Chambers Wharf to Abbey Mills. It includes the main tunnel, a connection tunnel to Greenwich Pumping Station, various shaft constructions, a connection to the newly constructed Lee Tunnel project, and minor works at the Beckton Sewage Treatment Plant.

About the Role
Understand the Company Health & Safety and Environmental (SHE) Policies and Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company’s operations and ensure that the requirements are implemented on the project/contract/framework
Provide operational and functional management advice on the practical implementation of the company’s Environmental Policies and processes including external stakeholders such as customers if necessary
Act as delegate for the Project Environmental Manager reporting to the Project Senior Leadership Team
Drive awareness for and delivery against contract targets, particularly reducing carbon and striving to achieve best possible outcomes in biodiversity and natural capital.
Drive supply chain organisations to deliver best practice and continual improvement in environmental performance
Liaise with the other members of the SHE Team and the wider organisation with regards to SHE.
Maintain own level of knowledge and competency in relations to Environmental Management and responsibilities including appropriate qualifications and professional membership

Key Responsibilities
Contribute to the development of other employees with regards environmental competence
Assist and provide advice to Contract Management in the understanding of stakeholders (internal and external) aims, priorities and risks with regards to the environment
Assist with the preparation of SHE Risk Assessments and Method Statements, when necessary
Undertake and/or assist with the monitoring, analysis of and reporting of environmental performance. Utilise data to highlight areas of further consideration, evaluation and intervention
Assist and/or manage the investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and other incidents as directed.
Assist in the preparation and implementation of environmental training/briefings, as directed.
Promote best practice, capture best practice and ensure it is fed-back into the business.
Provide advice and guidance, and where necessary assist with the obtaining legal consents, licenses and exemptions such as discharge consents, abstraction licenses and waste management licenses as and when required and as directed.
Undertake and provide advice in key tasks to assist in the development, management, implementation and monitoring of the Environmental Management System
Undertake and/or assist Contract Management in establishing, managing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders such as the EA, Local Authority, Port of London Authority etc as required and directed
Undertake assurance activities to monitor compliance with company and legal requirements and participate, as requested, in “Company” Group SHE audits
Provide advice and guidance with regards to the assessment of and appointment of sub-contractors
Research environmental issues and best practices as directed by the Environmental Manager or delegate
Set standards and lead by example in the management of SHE.
Obtain competency cards in line with the company Competence Card Compliance Standard

About you
Experience in managing and influencing client expectations
Experience of delivering presentations, talking in public etc
The ability to thrive in pressure situations
The ability to empathise and communicate with all people, regardless of their background or circumstances
Excellent organisational, communication and time management skills
A passion for Safety, Health, and the Environment
Be able to work on own initiative when required
