Main duties of the job

  • ORTHOPTIC APPOINTMENT CLERK DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide first point of access administration for all referrals into the booking centre
  • Act as first point of contact for all enquiries and referrals into the trust
  • Use of local patient administration systems to manage all referrals, waiting lists and appointments for all patients in a timely manner
  • Patient Access and Booking
  • To register and validate all new referral requests on the Patient Administrative System, ensure accuracy, checking all details and using NHS tracking agencies (WDS, WCCG) to complete missing data. Forward outpatient referrals to the appropriate clinician for clinical prioritisation in line with ophthalmology booking rules and update WPAS once returned. Responsible for ensuring timeliness of return of referrals and expedition of any constraints to line manager ensuring that all un-prioritised referrals are proactively chased and updated on WPAS in line with departmental protocols.

  • Knowledge of WPAS or other patient administration systems or experience using databases and excel to sort and filter data fields

  • Ability to speak Welsh
