Main duties of the job

The post holder will be instrumental in developing and implementing the Clinical Governance frameworks and in giving professional advice in relation to the development of services, within the area/division. They will be responsible for the planning of care co-ordination and services within the service and with all stakeholders.

To develop the nursing workforce/services that contribute to the delivery of the local service plans, Health and Well Being Strategies, and other national strategies that are:

  • Based on patient and public involvement
  • Liberate the potential of staff
  • The Nurse Lead is jointly responsible, along with other nurse leads for the leadership and development of the nursing team and monitoring and improving quality standards and patient experience, ensuring professional challenge occurring as necessary.

    The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The post holder is required to provide leadership, nursing service development and management to the designated speciality.
  • The post holder will work in partnership with external agencies including charitable and independent sectors, across a variety of settings e.g. acute hospitals, primary care, community and care homes.
  • The post holder is required to be a clinical leader and expert in the designated specialty, providing both expert clinical support and intervention directly to patients in a variety of settings; and supervision, guidance and support for the nursing teams and the wider multidisciplinary teams who care for patients, families and carers.
  • The post holder will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring that the service meets local, regional and national quality standards including nursing/service metrics The post holder will support the Head of Nursing to develop and deliver the nursing/service metrics and lead operational change to ensure there is a sound academic and evidence base.

    Essential criteria

  • Registered nurse Masters Degree or equivalent experience in Nursing or health related subject or working towards with completion in three years Significant relevant experience in a managerial post Teaching/assessing qualification or experience Track record of significant continuous professional and management development Leadership training or equivalent experience Demonstrates enthusiasm towards teaching and sharing knowledge Up to date in all current issues related to professional nursing practice and health service management Assertive and confident in approach
