£18,250 per annum (£36,500 pro rata pa)

Job Purpose

This post will report to the Head of ALS, will manage the ALS teaching team and the EHCP Caseworker, and will lead on developments such as Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans and changes to funding for specialist support. Post holders will have relevant teaching experience along with an appropriate teaching qualification and will be able to demonstrate an effective knowledge of the FE qualifications system. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal are essential.

Successful candidates will need experience of working in the area of SEND, management and training experience and knowledge of issues relating to the funding and delivery of specialist services in a post-16 setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • To develop and maintain the referral process for ALS teaching support.
  • To manage the teaching team to include one to one meetings, probationary reviews, appraisals and observations.
  • To develop the service in line with changing requirements and in liaison with the Head of ALS.
  •  Close liaison with the LSA Co-ordinator to ensure a joined up approach to support.
  •  Work with the local authorities and schools to conduct pre-entry assessments of potential students.
  •  Monitoring of applications to identify students with Education Health and Care Plans and those needing specialist support.
  •  Support the Head of ALS with the identification of students requiring High Needs funding.
  • Work with relevant College teams to identify specialist support packages for students with SEND.
  •  To be point of liaison and advice about SEND with members of staff, parents and external agencies.
  •  To manage the EHCP Caseworker, to include one to ones and appraisals.
  •  Liaise with external agencies involved in EHC Plans.
  •  Liaise with College support services and curriculum areas around teaching and learning of learners with EHC Plans to ensure high and realistic expectations of learners.
  •  Ongoing monitoring of welfare and progress of learners with EHC Plans.
  •  Supervise the organisation of, and conduct, Annual Reviews of EHC Plans where required and produce subsequent updated documentation.
  •  Ensure termly reviews for High Needs funded learners are conducted and that liaison with Local Authorities is appropriate.
  • Essential experience, knowledge, qualifications, skills and attributes

  • A relevant teaching qualification
  • Teaching experience in an Additional Learning Support or related area
  • Working knowledge of the safeguarding agenda
  • Experience in the delivery of specialist services
  • Good working knowledge of the 2014 SEND Code of Practice and its practical application
  • A good working knowledge of EHCPs and the review process
  • Demonstrable experience of commitment to child protection, safeguarding and the promotion of a safe learning environment for children and young people
  • Demonstrable commitment to the Colleges support and promotion of equality and diversity in all aspects of working life
  • Have a flexible approach to working hours
