What does this role involve?

We’re recruiting for associates to join our Regulatory Policy and Strategy team, which is expanding to deliver the exciting and ambitious work programme set out in our new strategy.

The role of an associate at the PSR is a dynamic one, which calls for a flexible and proactive approach. You’ll support on the delivery of various parts of the PSR’s policy work programme, helping to improve outcomes for users of payment systems. This will involve working on different aspects of the policy cycle – identifying and analysing issues, developing policy options, supporting consultations, reading and analysing responses, and helping to implement our decisions.

Our Regulatory Policy and Strategy team is composed of economists, technical payments experts and policy specialists. You’ll also work with colleagues from the Legal, Communications and Operations teams.

Examples of the work you will do in this role are:

* Providing support on market reviews, policy development, and other policy initiatives, requiring you to manage a workstream or project and deliver high quality work
* Liaising with a wide variety of stakeholders, including firms, government, other regulators and consumer groups, to gather evidence, test policy options and explain our approach
* Conducting policy/economic analysis to support our work. You’ll also need to draft briefings to explain complex issues, often within tight timeframes
* Presenting policy recommendations to the PSR Executive Committee
* Providing policy input for enforcement cases

About you

We’re a signatory to the Government’s Disability Confident scheme. As a minimum, you will need to be able to demonstrate:

* Previous experience in policy development for a regulator, government department, consultancy or other organisation

Essential

* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Good prioritisation skills
* Demonstrated ability to build relationships with stakeholders and to work collaboratively
* Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

It would be useful to have

* Experience of other sectors subject to economic regulation
* An understanding of economics
* An up-to-date understanding of the regulatory developments in the UK payments landscape and knowledge of the Payment Systems Regulator
