The postholder will provide an effective plain imaging service to prescribed service delivery targets. The central focus is on the A&E service however require active daily management of resources will be required to ensure effective Inpatient, mobile & theatre, direct access (GP), and outpatients services are maintained.

The postholder will also be responsible for the day-to-day organisation of the plain imaging service, managing a multidisciplinary team within the department and promoting an integrated team approach within the context of the Department of Radiology.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:

  • To ensure the highest standards of patient care and image quality, including monitoring of radiographic standards and development of new techniques, protocols, training programmes and audit projects, as appropriate to service needs
  • Monitor the level and standard of work undertaken by your staff and to guide, coach and advise them as appropriate. Provide briefing prior to and debriefing after all training and development activities.
  • Liaise directly with the lead Consultant Radiologist for all clinical matters
  • To line manage assistant practitioners, ensuring that they are correctly supervised and working in accordance with trust and departmental policy.
  • To undertake all practical radiographic and associated duties on rotation throughout all areas of the Department of Radiology
  • Manage the continuous development and maintenance of techniques and protocols in keeping with service and research needs. Ensuring all practice is evidence based.
  • Co-ordination of the provision of an equipment servicing, quality assurance and monitoring programme in agreement with the Head of Imaging.
  • Encouragement and maintenance of a good working relationship with all other departments and staff to provide an efficient and effective plain imaging service to all users and patients.
  • To contribute to the Clinical Governance programme within the Department and Directorate actively encouraging others

    Education / Qualifications

    Essential criteria

  • BSc in Radiography or equivalent.
  • HPC Registration radiographer
  • Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of Management studies or equivalent experience
  • PGDip in Radiology related studies
  • Knowledge
